The beginning of ESRF’s Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS)

An important milestone has been reached recently at ESRF in the EBS storage ring commissioning. EBS project, known as Extremely Brilliant Source, has started back in 2015 and it is a great achievement for the team at ESRF. After the construction, EBS will be the first high-energy-fourth-generation synchrotron, using a number of key innovative technologies. At the beginning of December, just days after the start of the storage ring commissioning, first electrons made their inaugural turn around the new EBS storage ring. The EBS team was able to accumulate electrons in the storage ring at the world record horizontal emittance value of 308 pm. We are proud to be a part of this milestone as we provided the beam position monitoring (BPM) and beam loss monitoring (BLM) electronics for the new machine.
